Meet the Team

Angela McClure

I have always seen the magic in horses; I think the TV series ‘My Little Pony’ was key in this. I remember vividly the coloured manes and tails, brushing them, plaiting them etc.
In 2001, we bought a small holding; I started riding again, and purchased my first horse, since a child, needless to say over the next couple of years I bought more horses.
I later bought my first warm blood ‘All Time Favourite’, by Hakahana Akito, the idea being to compete in Dressage. I started competing and we did really well, sadly Time became lame, and we retired. I have had many instructors over the years, learning the most from, Lyn King and Karen Keller. Lyn and Karen taught me how to ride, it was not an easy task, as I am a fearful rider, and I discovered I lost the bravery I had as a child.
Dressage has always been my thing, it fits in very well with the way my mind works, and besides I am too chicken to jump! Put it this way, if I was in a life or death situation, and the difference meant jumping, I would probably choose death!
In 2010, I bought my Clydesdale Stallion ‘Titus’, this after falling in love with my husband’s Clydesdale gelding ‘Sherman’. To this end Lochlorien Stud was formed, the aim initially, to put Titus to quality, well-bred thoroughbred mares, producing the Highland Sport Horse. We will however be acquiring pure bred Clydesdale mares in the future too! The Stud currently boasts 7 broodmares and of course the Stallion.
Pegasus Insurance Brokers was formed in 2002, we only insured horses. My love for the horse, made me want an occupation that spoke of my favourite subject matter. In 2004, I formed EquiStar Underwriting Managers, which insure not only horses, but Wildlife, Livestock and Dogs. I guess fundamentally horse lovers are animal lovers!
My work is not my job, but my hobby! I love it!

Angela and Neal

Neal Rogers

Neal is my husband. He is a system developer, programmer, all things IT, by profession. I am supported by Neal with regards to the internal administration system EquiStar uses, as well as the day to day requirements and management of the company.
I corrupted Neal, being that he was largely a ‘city slicker’ when we met, and I think he is now more horse/animal crazy than I am, if that is possible.
Neal only started riding about 3 and a half years ago, being a large man, he needed a larger horse. Close friends of ours have a Clydesdale Stallion, and they invited Neal on an outride with him. Neal fell in love with Quentin, and so the shopping spree began. We found Sherman for Neal. Sherman who at 18hh is a gentle giant, and so much like Neal in personality.
Neal has lessons with Lyn King, and is loving it! We even did a pax de deux on Tuesday with our Clydes. Watch this space for duos we perform!

Sandra Louw

Sandra Louw Sandra is a gem, and has been with us since 2006. Her function in the company is all administration, reporting functions, debit order transactions, quoting and schedules, with the exception of Wildlife and Livestock which is my domain. Sandra is also the friendly voice you will hear when calling our offices.

And yes, I am pleased to say that even Sandra has sat on one of my horses on a few occasions, although it seems she is a bit scared of things that are big - we are however, in the interest of public relations, working on this phobia.
